Shopping malls are private property, rented out in parcels at extremely high prices, so their tenants can run their shops with a perceived better shot at attracting passers-by than if they had a stand-alone store.
If you owned your own shop and some people kept standing out in front of your store without your permission, handing out political flyers, you'd probably run them off, right? In this case, the owners of the shopping mall are providing a similar service to the merchants paying to be there. It's FAR from a "public space".
As I said, fewer and fewer spaces where public debate can take place. Shopping malls are the same - 'public spaces' that aren't. Soon streets that have been public for years will start to be be privatised to provide 'better value for taxpayers' and the takeover will continue.
Then where can free debate take place? Some postage-stamp size bit of turf you call home?

Ahh... America, the land of the free.... all rights and no responsibility. Its an insult to the concept of safe and responsible actions to think that an app that alerts you to a DUI checkpoint is OK. Speeding and red light is different, cause that STOPS people speeding and running red lights, but getting drunk (even moderately - you can still read an app and press a button on your phone) then knowing how to avoid the repercussions aint cool. And hey - try living in Australia - Random Breath tests and drug testing, but then the road toll here has significantly been reduced over the last decade - we have that wonderful campaign - 'If you drink, then drive - your a bloody idiot'!!

Unless it's a RED macbook pro, then it should be at least 20% to good causes. With 120GB hard drive, just imagine how much awful U2 music you could have.

I expect upgrades to the laptops, iMac, and Mini. Also, there is a good chance of introducing either a iPhone or a iHome.
iTunes Movie Store is certain, although it would be interesting to note how apple goes about selling movies (like the resolution, download times, pricing etc.)

I am in favor of Greenpeace's "Green My Apple" campaign. For all of Steve Jobs' zen-attitude, vegetarianism, often-proclaimed "do the right thing" stance, and Apple's financial liquidity, there's no reason why other manufacturers can make the change and Apple isn't willing to move in the right direction with their products.
And, as others have pointed out, if other vendors' straying from their booths is tolerated, and Greenpeace is singled out because their message is an uncomfortable truth that could eat away at Apple's image of being the perfect computer company, then that's an outrage. If Greenpeace gets reprimanded, so should every other vendor who strays from their booth.

You are also stuck in current times. Physical media will be dead by then, everything is going to be cloud based, there will be no such thing as a physical copy of movies any more :)
tell that to the majority of the people in the world who struggle to stream a SD youtube video because internet speeds aren't up to snuff yet. we simply don't have the infrastructure for it yet.

Booths are available on first come first serve basis usually with returning vendors getting the right of first refusal for booths they have held previously. The ends and large booths near foot traffic are more expensive and they command a higher price. Some shows, fewer today than before, allow for "cigarette girls" or "strollers" but the vendor pays for this as they would for any other perks�and they are not cheap. They are generally given a specific time period in which they may walk the floor (if in costume they need a chaperone). They are not allowed to transact business but hand out "freebies". According to the story Greenpeace only signed up for a booth. All contracts I have seen say you'll get thrown out if you don't obey the rules.

It's like Creative accused Apple of stealing the goose that lays golden eggs. In return, Apple gives Creative one of the eggs and Creative goes, "Wow! Thanks! You can keep the goose!"
The face-value interpretation says that Creative won because it was a pauper who now has a golden egg that's worth a lot of money. The deep interpretation is that Apple still has the goose and Creative just gave up all claims of ownership over it.
What's so hard to understand about that?

Second, Creative doesn't "give up" anything but a license to Apple for technology Apple was using before for nothing. No matter how you cut it, the license fee come right out of Apple's bottom line.
If this can be called a "win" for Apple, it's in their getting this issue squared away relatively quickly, so it doesn't overhang the next generation of iPod releases. Nokia actually has a phone with clickwheel and no keypad, the 7380. Anyway, the Apple Phone does have a keypad as well.

True, but I doubt Apple will put them in their machines and/or peripherals. I'd love to keep a third offsite backup of my information with BDXL, and I can with 3rd party hardware.
I think one of the biggest things holding me back though is the price of the discs.

I have been holding back on buying a 13" Air for the backlit keyboard and Thunderbolt.
If I get both it'll be a definite buy. If I get just TB, then I may just consider the MBP.
Taiyo Yuden bd-r are under 2 bucks for 25GB. That's not a big deal in my opinion.

I'm aware that Steve isn't going to be there. I guess I just don't see how this is anything newsworthy. We're going to hear about updates, get some announcements. We all know that. It just seems like an odd and obvious macrumors/new story to me. That's all.
On the other hand, I want an iPhone, a widescreen iPod, a larger capacity Nano, a merom MBP, etc. :)

I don't claim to know a thing about trademark law, but looking at this simply I find it difficult to understand how the term "Windows" can become a trademark but "App Store" cannot.
Agreed.... Macs had windows long before PC's had "Windows". I think that if one can be a trademark then the other surely can. Personally, I think that if there were no such precedence, then neither should be allowed as a trademark. But terms like this have been allowed as trademarks for quite some time. Microsoft should just drop it -- what is their vested interest here anyway? There are a thousand things they can call their application store.

I really hope this happens but I have a feeling that it will be hobbled in some way. If it runs from an iTunes master copy of songs then it might preclude people uploading music that has been ripped from CDs or bought somewhere else (like Amazon).

why are they mad about getting kicked out. I'm not to favorable of enviromentalists, but I'll admit they're good cause if it weren't for them we probably would screw up alot of stuff, they keep it evened out, but still they're at a computer convention they should be greatful they were even allowed to have a booth at all, they should have abided by the contract.
