RUSSIAN'S FASHION

Russian Fashion

The physical barriers between East and West came down in the 1990s.  Since then Russia has steadily been moving forward to produce competitive fashion that interests the western world.  In late October 18-25, Moscow held their Russian Fashion Week.  It has grown so large there was a need for a better fashion show and exhibition venue.  Thus the Russian Fashion Week has moved to Gorky Park.
The Russian Fashion Week (RFW), which ended last Saturday, brought together top Russian designers and their foreign counterparts for what is widely considered Eastern Europe''s premiere fashion celebration.

The event hosted almost 50 shows over seven days in the renovated Congress Hall of World Trade Center in Moscow and was broadcast live on the World Fashion Channel and Russia Today Television.

"RFW estimated [there were] almost 40,000 in attendance this season, including hundreds of buyers and celebrities, and 900 accredited journalists," said Alexander Shumsky, RFW president.

"All collections were quite strong, so media coverage was very wide. RFW is really showcasing the elite of Russian fashion," he added.

In addition to the top designers who are currently defining and developing Russian fashion, the event also hosted established and rising international industry stars, including France''s Jean Charles de Castelbajac, Spanish designers Maria Lafuente and Toni Francesc as well as three up-and-coming Italian fashion creators - a.VE, Chicca Lualdi BeeQueen and Leitmotiv.

On the heels of the event, RFW also announced that Russian designers Anastasia Z, Masha Kravtsova and Elena Karnaukhova will participate in the upcoming Milano Moda Donna this September as part of the existing agreement with Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana.
